Man who refuses to testify in trial ordered to spend 30 days in jail

A Douglas County judge on Wednesday ordered a man to spend 30 days in jail, one day after he refused to testify against two men accused of trying to rob him.

The 24-year-old man told Judge Robert Fairchild that he understood the court’s order, but he was afraid of the defendants and would not testify.

On Tuesday, the man was taken into custody after he refused to take the stand during a preliminary hearing for Louis Galloway Jr., 19, Lawrence, and Timothy Hays, 20, Kansas City.

The victim shot both men, during what proseucutors say was an attempted robbery on Aug. 23 at the victim’s mobile home at Easy Living Mobile Home Park, 3323 Iowa St.

The Douglas County District Attorney’s Office dismissed the cases against the two defendants.
