Lawrence man arrested after firing gun near residence

A 20-year-old Lawrence man was arrested early Friday morning after firing a gun near a Lawrence residence.

According to Lawrence Police Capt. Paul Fellers, officers were responding about 1:50 a.m. to a call at the Pool Room, 925 Iowa St., when they heard what they believed were gunshots from somewhere in the nearby vicinity. They believed the shots had come from somewhere west of the Pool Room and were eventually led to a residence in the 900 block of Centennial Drive.

Through contacting someone inside the residence, they were able to locate several shotgun casings that had been spent. They also located a shotgun, the barrel of which was less than 18 inches. Fellers said officers also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

A 20-year-old Lawrence man was arrested for the criminal use of a firearm and unlawful discharging of a firearm as well as for possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia.

No one was injured during the incident and police had not determined why the firearm had been discharged.
