Ready or not, New Year’s shows are here

New Year’s Day has arrived. And early in the morning, too!

If there’s anyone perkier than Al Roker, who presides over the coverage of the 121st Tournament of Roses Parade (10 a.m., NBC), it’s his sidekick Nancy O’Dell, veteran of the blaring entertainment magazine “Access Hollywood.”

And for those who can’t wait for the parade to begin, there’s the “Countdown to the Rose Parade” (9 a.m., Hallmark) hosted by Bob Eubanks and Stephanie Edwards.

• The folks at the Fine Living Network hope you’re feeling a tad bloated after the monthlong holiday binge and ready to settle down for a daylong “Biggest Loser” marathon (6 a.m. to 11 p.m., FLN). Perhaps after watching trainers Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels browbeat contestants into shape, you won’t feel so bad.

• You might not feel so ready to pick up after watching new episodes of “Disaster House” (DIY) — part of a daylong marathon — about a car that runs into a home (11 a.m.); a house destroyed by sheep (1 p.m.); and a house destroyed by a hot tub flood (2 p.m.).

• “Design Intern” (3 p.m., HGTV) pits 12 recent graduates against one another as they vie for a job with an acclaimed Canadian designer.

• Given a brand, spankin’ new year to anticipate, MTV kicks last year to the curb with “Nick Cannon Presents Hatin’ on ’09” (1 p.m., MTV) an opinionated digest of pop culture’s very recent past.

• “Dogtown” (9 p.m., National Geographic) returns to the grim subject of dog fighting and the shadowy criminal underground of breeders and gamblers that support it. The hourlong offering follows the retraining and redemption of two dogs damaged in the ring, as well as an undercover investigation into a breeding racket in Detroit.

• A brash Australian designer travels the globe and comes back with ideas for backyard renovations on “Outdoor Room with Jamie Durie” (9 p.m., HGTV).

• The Documentary Channel debuts its first-ever original series, “Doctalk” (7 p.m., Documentary), a weekly chat show about nonfiction filmmaking.

• A “Design Star” winner gets his very own show, “Antonio Treatment” (9:30 p.m., HGTV). The self-styled “bad boy” brings his attitude to a colorful array of clients. Memo to Antonio: Anybody who calls himself a “bad boy” is neither bad nor still a boy.

Tonight’s other highlights

• “The Twilight Zone” marathon continues all day on Syfy, as does the “Doctor Who” marathon on BBC America. “Rocky” and its sequels air on Encore.

• Oregon and Ohio State meet in the Rose Bowl (4 p.m., ABC).

• On two episodes of “Better Off Ted” (ABC), Ted and Linda face disciplinary action (7:30 p.m.), and Ted can’t handle praise (8:30 p.m.).

• Florida and Cincinnati meet in the Sugar Bowl (7:30 p.m., Fox).

• Joe worries about Allison’s focus on a kidnapped boy on “Medium” (8 p.m., CBS).

• Lucy loses her sure footing on “Scrubs” (8 p.m., ABC).

• Standup comedy on “Jake Johannsen: I Love You” (8:30 p.m., Showtime).

Cult choice

Nicolas Cage won an Oscar for the downbeat 1995 drama “Leaving Las Vegas” (9 p.m., IFC), though after “The Wicker Man” many believe he should give it back.
