One of three men charged with methamphetamine trafficking after a raid last week at a home east of Lawrence has been released from custody, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.

The other two men remain detained, said Jim Cross, spokesman for U.S. attorney Lanny Welch.

Anthony Sims, 57, was released on undisclosed conditions, Cross said. Donald Steele and Randy Dyke, both 50, remain behind bars.

All three are charged with conspiracy to manufacture, distribute and possess with the intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine.

Their arrests were in connection with a raid at 1706 N. 1500 Road, Steele's residence and business, All Seasons Tree Service.

Personally, I'm waiting for more misspelled, overly complex, and utterly devoid of logic theories regarding a bridge over the Kansas River.

Is he still charged or have all charges been dropped Lawrence Journal World readers would like to know.

Yeah, we now know who has rolled over on his BFFs.

The LJW has my permission to cut and paste this into a future article: "Sims, in consideration for his testimony and cooperation, has received a reduced sentence."

Someone straight straight rolled on them to begin with otherwise they wouldn't be in this mess now. One more roll really doesn't matter at this point. I wonder why the original roller hasn't made the paper. Word on the street is they already have an idea who it was.

In Federal cases you are released if you are not a flight risk or danger to the community. Federal charges don't just get dropped. Just because he has been released does not mean he is a snitch. Even people looking at 20 years if convicted can be on pre-trial release

This sort of thing wouldn't happen if we had fewer roundabouts.

Cops will release a suspect so they can tell the others that he rolled on them. They even have proof he did, it's in the newspaper.

I keep hearing whispers of a woodchipper used in a crime...can anyone else confim this?

krsmin says, "They even have proof he did, it's in the newspaper." First of all, no law enforcement agency is going to make that kind of information public and secondly, what newspaper? You've gone way beyond kissin' the blarney stone.

One time I witnessed a fight and the police talked to me and I told them what I seen. Well a few days later one of the family members of one of the guys in the fight came to my house and said she was making sure I wasn't going to testify in court. Of course I said no because my kids were home and this chick looked scary. I called the PD as soon as she left and they informed me that the police report was given to the lawyer and they showed the guy in the fight and his family. Well the police told me that night that no one would know my name, LOL BS. And they wonder why people don't come forward and tell what happens. Your not safe! I learned a lesson, KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT IF YOU WANT TO BE SAFE. I know thats a shame but the truth!

0

gossipgirl785 4 years, 7 months ago

I meant to also add that they showed my address and phone number and all of it was shown to the people. I never ended up going to court because I was scared and a couple of years ago I recognized the names in the news paper and both of them went to jail for violent crimes. Scary! I think names, address and phone numbers should be left off things like that. But who am I ?? Just an idea!

Get these hairs all out my face, get these bugs all out of my place. One more hit, NO TIME TO WASTE!

Oh meth; Ooo meth!

I think they released him so they could follow him. I see more arrests on the horizon. My guess is these guys weren't the brains of the operation if ya know what I mean. The Feds are probably still after the big fish.

0

Amy Heeter 4 years, 7 months ago

I am sure there are more arrests coming. It is a trickle down kind of thing. The consumers will be shipped off to drug treatment in exchange for testimony and the big fish will be taken when these guys make a deal.

Gossip girl, you're just coming out with this now? Call me suspicious, but sounds to me like you have an ulterior motive for scaring people into not testifying or comming forward when they witness a crime. If your story is true, contact the KS Attorney General's office and file a complaint.

0

gossipgirl785 4 years, 7 months ago

kernal, no ulterior motive. Just sharing my story, because of what you said about the law enforcement not giving out information. They do give information out. I hope they get all the meth heads and dealers off the street but the Police should let witness know that thier address, phone number and names will probably be made available and that someone may come looking for them and to be careful. I would of just appreciated a heads up instead of them telling me that no one would know what I said. I did call the Police and they are the ones that told me that my information was on the police report and any one can see it. I was really scared for my children and I. You shouldn't accuse people of stuff before you have all the facts. I would of told you if you asked me.

no *Dyke sighting?

no reference to the Central Intelligence Agency being at El Ranchero del Scootero?

c'mon people! lets get this party started! we only got Lilfoot and her semiliterate noise. to which, btw, it is important to note the article indicates Simms is still facing charges! lilfoot celebrates that Simms is out on unspecified conditions? apparently lilfoot has something else that's very small too.

if found guilty, throw all three in the can for a long time or just for life! how many minds in our area are perminently damaged because of what these three did? how many families are grieving or suffered harm?

and Lilfoot celebrates? says a lot about Lilfoot.

"rolled ha ha released on o.r. under cover said he never touched the drugs or money just in the wrong place at the wrong time this just in lol yay tony!"

Sorry to inject a little reality into your fantasy bubble but your statement is flatly false. Didn't you read: "Anthony Sims, 57, was released on undisclosed conditions, Cross said." Conditions, get it? A conditional release. Probably has a tracking device and can't leave his residence. Not uncommon and useful in these kinds of cases. Tony will get out and lead them to the others, or the others will come after Tony for the 50g+ he lost to the feds. Either way the others show up and that's what they are looking for. Since reading obviously isn't your strong suite (spelling and grammar either) you probably missed this too: "All three are charged with conspiracy to manufacture, distribute and possess with the intent to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine." That means the charges haven't been dropped, he hasn't been pronounced innocent. I do have a question for you though, since you seem to think you have all the answers and we're all speculating. How exactly are you in the wrong place at the wrong time when you weren't arrested in the same place as the other two defendants? Wrong place wrong time would imply he got caught up in a larger raid that he wasn't a part of. The feds went after these guys and from the original article they were all arrested at different locations. I don't think you have a clue what any undercover cop said and I'm not stupid enough to believe that the feds would even make a statement like that prior to this going to trial. I guess folks will believe anything they want to, no matter how idiotic it is. Welcome to reality lilbrain.

seein as how i just talked to him i do know more about it than you and yes happy for him and the people who care about him and whats the point of rollin when an under cover is involved and has been for awhile now no house arrest either. say what you will bout me who cares i dont the only reason i'm blogging on the whole story anyway is because it has to do with my family member . i have a life a very good one and dont go around blogging on things that i have nothing to do with . happy blogging, ppl get a life!

LOL So, lilfoot, you think he's going to get out and be like, "Yea, I snitched"?? Seriously? You're more of a moron than I thought just from your original post. He's going to tell everyone a story that sounds good, no one ever openly admits to being a lil songbird for the police. Reality. .. .you should consider facing it!

0

lilfoot 4 years, 7 months ago

wow what i know i know from what happened at court and the reasons they gave for letting him out, not just from him. if he did roll to save himself from 10 to life and a 4 million dollar fine ,so what! those men would have to mean more than his own life to do that. there's no honor among criminals if you wanna put it that way.

apparently she learned cold callous thinking at her father's knee. suppose she was involved too???

Lilfoot celebrates, doesn't care about victims. doesn't understand why we are angry with a meth supplier.

speaks volumes about lilfoot.

I'll throw out there one possible aspect of "conditional release" may be not to discuss the case with anyone. It may be that lilfoot posting could well get daddy tossed right back in the slammer. The chances of federal charges being filed then dropped within a few days is a joke. If that were true Yellow House would be free as birds. Bottom line is Simms looks like he used more product than he sold anyway It is at least good that he has family support though; too bad he didn't have that before he got busted.

The sale of all items owned by Kimm Cline is going on today. There was no meth lab on the property. The reason for the "haz-mat" van was that there were many vehicles with gas and oil plus there were a lot of paint cans on the property. This created a concern for contamination and thus the van. The property has been labeled as not habitable due to plumbing and electrical not being up to code. If you have doubt, contact Keith Dabney at 785-331-1343.

see KSA 79-5201 et seq. The following is a summary of the call to Ks. Dept. of Revenue after hearing that Don was billed $90K for drug tax. I asked "What if he is found not guilty." "Didn't matter he will still owe the $90K!!!" she said "But his case hasn't been adjudicated yet." I said " Doesn't matter." she said " Can I have his attorney contact you?" I asked" " No. Attorneys are not allowed at those proceedings since it is civil!" she responded WHAT!! Taxation based on accusation without representation!!! Really??!!
I am sickened by the prospect that based on accusation one can be put in a private holding facility, not have contact with the outside, be poorly represented, taxed on the basis of an accusation, have your home condemned, lose everything you own, be effectively isolated from incoming mail, have outgoing mail suppressed and then be told that you can't have representation by a court-appointed counsel!
I respect everyone's opinion on this case. I think some have made witty, pithy and accurate comments, others have made poorly worded rhetoric. That's Okay. That is why we have a constitution that allows you to say those things. I defend your right to say them. It sometimes hurts to hear them, but you have the right to say them. God help us all if we loose that! No voice, No Forum, No Lawrence Journal World! My brother has no voice. He is not being heard in this forum. Having been active in civic responsibilities, I am well-aware of the catastrophic effects of meth. I am the first to condemn it's use or condone it's distribution. My brother has always concurred with me in that resolve. He has raised three fine children who have all gone to college or are still attending school. His home was a refuge for the homeless; a well of hope for the hopeless and unfortunately a graveyard for rusty old cars.
I won't convince anyone of Don's innocence by this diatribe. I don't expect to. Most who have added to this forum have contributed real feelings or real thought-provoking issues. Some have provided humor. In all it is the luxury of being able to speak out at all that is at risk. Think about it. Don got set up by a life-long friend who was facing many years in prison....the friend was wired and entrapped Don into some kind of situation. Now Don is silent to all of you. You can't ask him a question and he can't answer it.

By the way, did I mention that today was his birthday? Happy Birthday Don.
