Traffic slowed by two-vehicle accident on eastbound Turnpike between Topeka, Lawrence

Traffic between Topeka in Lawrence was slowed Monday afternoon because of a two-vehicle accident in the eastbound lanes of the Kansas Turnpike.

According to a report from the Kansas Turnpike Authority, a 91-year-old Topeka man was driving and rear-ended a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old Lawrence man. The Topeka man’s vehicle entered the ditch and caught fire. The driver was transported to an area hospital.

The report from the KHP stated the accident was due to a medical condition occurring with the Topeka man.

The scene was cleared about 4:30 p.m.

A condition update for the victim was not available Monday evening.
