Sushi chef kicks off Art is Zen month

Internationally recognized chef instructor Tatsu Miyazaki is coming to Lawrence to help kick off the Lawrence Art Guild’s Art is Zen events. During the month of April the Lawrence Art Guild’s 1109 Gallery will be hosting a variety of zen events. Activities will include a monthlong art show featuring zen art, a free art-opening celebration and sushi-making classes.

The public is invited to attend the 1109 Gallery April opening reception, which is 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Saturday. Free beverages, sushi and snacks will be served. Throughout the month, the gallery will feature zen art. These works may also be viewed now through April 25 at the gallery.

Miyazaki will be teaching two sushi-making classes Saturday and Sunday at the gallery. Attendees will learn how to choose fresh ingredients, roll the perfect sushi and create many different rolls. The fresh seafood for the sushi is being provided by Angler’s Seafood House. Vegetarian options are available.

Advance enrollment is required for the sushi classes. For enrollment information, visit the Announcements section at www.lawrenceartguild.org, or e-mail Michele at capturedbymichele@yahoo.com.
