Kansas City, Mo. ? Steve Rose, the longtime publisher of the Johnson County Sun, said Wednesday that he will seek election to the 3rd District seat in Congress currently held by Dennis Moore.

The 61-year-old Rose said he would campaign as a Republican. If he wins the GOP nomination, he presumably would face six-term Democratic incumbent Dennis Moore.

The Kansas City Star reports that Rose has endorsed Moore repeatedly in his newspaper column. But he said Moore has changed and is voting too often to support the “far-left” agenda of President Barack Obama.

Moore’s campaign said he is concentrating on his Congressional duties, noting the election is more than a year away.

The only other Republican actively campaigning is former state Rep. Patricia Lightner.
