Army phases out wounded soldier unit at Fort Leavenworth

? The Army has deactivated a wounded soldier unit at Fort Leavenworth.

Officials announced plans in May to close the Warrior Transition Unit at Fort Leavenworth as well as two in Alabama. Six others around the country were restructured.

With the closing at Fort Leavenworth, all wounded, ill and injured soldiers will continue to receive care at Fort Riley, about 100 miles to the west. A new complex for wounded soldiers is being built at Fort Riley to replace temporary facilities.

The Army’s moves reflect a decline in the number of wounded soldiers.
