Statehouse Live: Scroggins protests Otto’s anti-Obama video

? Activist Sonny Scroggins says state Rep. Bill Otto, R-LeRoy, should be censured or resign for his You Tube video in which Otto criticizes President Obama in a “RedNeck Rap” while wearing a hat that says “OPOSSUM the other Dark Meat.”

“This race-baiting needs to stop,” said Scroggins who held an American flag as he walked around the Statehouse grounds as a protest against Otto.

Scroggins also held a hand-lettered sign that said “C’mon son.” He said that was a message to Otto. “He needs to quit being a baby and creating a controversy where it’s not needed,” Scroggins said.

Otto has denied his “RedNeck Rap” video had any racial overtones. He said his reference to opossum as the other dark meat was a reference to his hillbilly heritage.

Sonny Scroggins of Topeka on Monday protested a You Tube video by state Rep. Bill Otto, R-LeRoy. Scroggins and Democratic leaders said the video was racist. Otto has denied the charge.

Scroggins drew only one other person to his protest today, and another person walking by shook his hand. But Scroggins said he wasn’t disappointed by the turnout and that he would return to protest Otto again when the legislative session starts in January.
