Kansas City loses 3 biggest conventions

? Kansas City’s three biggest conventions have announced plans to relocate.

Sam’s Club officials plan to move their manager meetings to Arkansas.

That’s expected to drain about $7.4 million from the local economy as the twice-a-year convocations brought thousands of managers to Bartle Hall.

Wal-Mart is moving its annual meeting to Orlando, Fla., and SkillsUSA will switch its annual gathering to Louisville, Ky., beginning in 2015. The three conventions were ranked highest in terms of the most hotel room-nights booked.

Kansas City Convention and Visitors Association officials call the announcements “huge body blows.”
