Thanksgiving music everywhere

Music abounds this holiday evening. “Beyonce: I Am … Yours” (8 p.m., ABC) captures the popular singer/actress during a performance in Las Vegas where she relates her life story through a series of dances and musical numbers.

“Paul McCartney: Good Evening New York City” (9 p.m., ABC) presents highlights from the ageless former Beatle’s Summer 2009 concert at Citi Field in Queens, N.Y. Home to the New York Mets, Citi Field is the replacement for Shea Stadium, the venue for the Beatles’ sold-out 1965 concerts. “Good Evening” includes performances from every stage of McCartney’s long and winding musical road, as well as clips of the Beatles at Shea Stadium.

• Carrie Underwood, Leona Lewis and Maxwell perform on “CNN Heroes: An All-Star Salute” (8 p.m., CNN), a celebration of people from all walks of life who have done extraordinary things over the past year. Anderson Cooper hosts the event from the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, where scheduled presenters include Nicole Kidman, Kate Hudson, Neil Patrick Harris, Pierce Brosnan, Dwayne Johnson, Eva Mendes, Randy Jackson, Greg Kinnear, George Lopez and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

• Holiday music of a more traditional sort is on tap on the “Great Performances” (8 p.m., PBS, check local listings) presentation of “Sting: A Winter’s Tale.” He sings a mix of carols, lullabies and traditional songs at Durham Cathedral near Newcastle-upon-Tyne in northern England.

• What with December breathing down our necks, it must be time to start glancing back at 2009 and assessing just who and what we care to remember and forget. Matt Lauer hosts “People of the Year” (8 p.m., NBC), a roundup of now-familiar faces with a special emphasis on those who were completely unknown to us in 2008. They include the heroic captains Chesley Sullenberger and Richard Phillips, as well as Susan Boyle, the plain-Jane singer who touched the hearts of Internet users the world over. Other notables include “Octomom” Nadya Suleman, NBA star Kobe Bryant and teenage singer Taylor Swift.

• Nothing says Thanksgiving like flying squash. Zach Selwyn and Mike Senese host “Punkin Chunkin” (7 p.m., Science), the 24th annual Delaware celebration of new ways of propelling a pumpkin a very long distance.

Tonight’s other highlights

• “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” (8 a.m., NBC). Coverage also unfolds on CBS’ “Early Show.”

• John O’Hurley hosts “The National Dog Show” (11 a.m., NBC), from the Philadelphia Expo Center. Viewers get a chance to see who wins “best in show” and meet contestants in three brand-new recognized breeds — the Irish Red and White Setter, the Norwegian Buhund and the Pyrenean Shepherd.

• In an effort to raise cancer awareness, “Kaleidoscope” (3 p.m., Fox) presents musical and skating performances by cancer survivors, including Scott Hamilton, Dorothy Hamill and Olivia Newton-John.

• The Peanuts gang relate the tale of the pilgrims on “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving” (7 p.m, ABC).

• Ben Stiller stars in the 2006 comedy fantasy “Night at the Museum” (7 p.m., Fox).

• Jim and Pam tie the knot at Niagara Falls on “The Office” (8 p.m., NBC).

• It’s never too early to obsess about holiday preparations, and “Martha Stewart’s Christmas Special” (8 p.m., FLN) shows you why.
