— One hundred days into their imprisonment in Iran, the three Americans arrested on a hiking path that crossed the Iran-Iraq border released public statements through their families Sunday.

Shane Bauer, 27, Sarah Shourd, 31, and Josh Fattal, 27, all graduates of University of California, Berkeley, were detained July 31 during a hike that crossed into Iran.

Iranian officials have said the entry into their country was illegal, while the Americans’ families have characterized the trespass as an innocent mistake.

Weren't the California trails good enough for these Berkely graduate hiking enthusiasts? Why in the hell would anyone by "hiking" in a country, Iraq, overrun with terrorists who want to kill Americans or near the border of Iran, another country full of people who hate Americans? I'm sure the Iranian theocratic leaders are wondering the same thing. These three UC-Berkely graduates are complete idiots; their moranic actions placed them in this position. They deserve whatever happens to them...

I'm not going to go so far as to say that I hope they die because they are alumni of one of the most liberal universities in the country (as the obviously right-leaning BlessedSap does), but it is a pretty ridiculous idea to go hiking in Iran.

It's not like that area has the most facinating terrain or it some kind of hiker's mecca. There's an entire planet out there and most of it is a heck of a lot safer and more scenic than that area. I bet they were well aware of the risks and saw the potential for publicity. If they make it out alive, they're pretty much guaranteed to profit off of book deals, interviews, etc.

Sometimes there are consequences for being "attention ho's".

Wow, so if these hikers were from a less libural university you people would want their release? BlessedSap, how is killing Americans helping America? You people are whats wrong with Kansas. You should be ashamed.

"It's not like that area has the most facinating terrain or it some kind of hiker's mecca."

Actually, it is, and apparently it attracts quite a few hikers. It's in a relatively tranquil part of Iraq, but they unintentionally crossed the mostly unmarked border into Iran.

I would say that calling for American tourists to be killed is very misguided. Anti-American in fact.

  8. sfjayhawk (anonymous) says…

What makes them liberal? Has there been any mention of their political ideology in any of the reporting? Speaking of ideology, there are only a few that would think that the killing of American's is a good thing. Which one do you belong to?

Looks like imadinnerjacket wants another concession from Obama.

The ironic thing is that the loons accuse the left and Obama of being communio-socialistic-fascists and the only fascist in this discussion is the far right whack job.

OK, I get it and now I feel retarded. BlessedSap is the notorious be3.
