‘Slumdog’ filmmakers meet with poor stars

Mumbai, India — The makers of “Slumdog Millionaire” met the film’s two impoverished child stars on Wednesday and reassured them they will soon have new homes. But the father of one of the children stormed out, saying the filmmakers have not done enough to help.

Rubina Ali, 9, and Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail, 10, both lost their homes this month after city authorities demolished parts of their slum in Mumbai. Rubina has been staying with relatives and Azhar has been living in a makeshift shanty of tarps and blankets with his parents.

“We’ve been trying for a long time to move them into legal accommodation,” director Danny Boyle told reporters at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences on the outskirts of Mumbai, where he and producer Christian Colson met the children and their families.

Nirja Mattoo, who helps oversee the children’s trust, said a new home has been found for Azhar’s family near to his school and neighborhood. “We are finalizing the deal. Next week it should be done,” she said.

The hunt for Rubina’s house continues, she added.

Chris Brown says he’s ‘not a monster’

New York — Chris Brown tells his fans he’s “not a monster” in a video posted on YouTube.

In it, the 20-year-old singer leans in and speaks directly into the camera, which appears to be positioned in front of a bowling lane. He talks about his new album called “Graffiti,” and a single expected this summer.

Then he says: “Everybody that’s haters, they just been haters. All my real fans, I love you. I ain’t a monster.”

Brown, who’s been charged with felony assault and making criminal threats against Rihanna on the night of the Grammy Awards in February, did not mention his former girlfriend.

It’s not immediately clear when the video was shot. A publicist for Brown didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment Wednesday.

Patti Blagojevich heads to Costa Rica for show

Springfield, Ill. — The wife of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich is headed to the Costa Rican jungle to compete on a TV reality show that he was barred from going on.

Her spokesman, Glenn Selig, said Wednesday that Patti Blagojevich is “on her way” to Costa Rica for her spot on NBC’s “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here.”

Selig says it’ll be challenging for the “big city girl.”

A federal judge barred her husband from going because it would send him out of the country. Rod Blagojevich faces federal corruption charges.

Patti Blagojevich has said she’s participating because of her family’s financial situation. Both she and her husband are unemployed.

The show airs on June 1. Other contestants include actor Stephen Baldwin and former “American Idol” contestant Sanjaya Malakar.
