Man arrested after baseball bat incident

A 19-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Monday afternoon on charges of battery and aggravated assault after an altercation in the 2300 block of Vermont Street.

According to Lawrence police Sgt. Mark Warren, the victim of the assault and battery was driving near 23rd and Massachusetts streets when he became involved in a verbal disagreement with a female driver. About 15 minutes after the altercation, the suspect, an acquaintance of the female driver, showed up at the residence the victim was visiting in the 2300 block of Vermont.

The suspect then went to the door of the residence with a baseball bat. Police responded to the report of battery and aggravated assault at 2:44 p.m. As of Monday night, police were still finishing reports and Warren said he was unsure whether anyone was injured in the incident.

The suspect was booked into Douglas County jail at 4:14 p.m.
