Joy of service

To the editor:

I finally reached the point that I feel I must comment on behalf of all those in the “silent majority” that read letters and think, “I should comment.”

I cannot tell you how proud I was to read the front page article “Family gets surprise morale booster” in the June 16 Journal-World. I still volunteer and help where I can, but just a few years ago, I wish I would have had the opportunity to give such a wonderful surprise to a family that was in need.

This is not a political letter, only one that needs to be shared with our community, where I have been lucky enough to spend my life. We need to remember that, as we have grown, we have let some of our “hometown” attitude and actions be diminished. I hope the younger generation will see the joy in service to each other and our community as a whole. God bless those involved in renewing my hope for a better future for all of us. Thank you!
