Letter to the editor: Two-party Congress

To the editor:

I hope you agree our country needs a two-party Congress to be a true democracy where rights are protected equally for all, not just those in power.

It is time to strongly object to the morally corrupt plans one political party wants to take that seriously jeopardizes our democracy. Why would we not be outraged knowing our rights will be taken away? Example: abortion restrictions even when a woman’s life is in danger — a right many have held dearly for generations.

Immigrants will no longer have an opportunity to legally integrate into our society; immigration has made our country one of the greatest in the world. Our most precious right to vote to choose who runs our country could be taken away forever.

Would you be furious if you were told guns would be easily available to everyone, even those just released from prison or a mental institution? What if our laws were suddenly changed to only laws the party in power wants, with no right to object?

Ridiculous, you say — could never happen in a democracy? What if that party openly declared that is exactly what they plan to do? Would you not be outraged if that is where our country will be headed? Wouldn’t it be better to exercise your right to vote and keep it from happening in the first place? Don’t sit this one out: Vote and encourage your family and friends to do the same! This election could be your last opportunity to vote.

Lawrence
