Lawrence police are investigating a May 19 rape in north central Lawrence, where a 35-year-old woman said she woke up to an attacker assaulting her, a police spokeswoman said Monday.

The victim reported that the suspect broke into her home. After the attack, she called a friend to take her to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where police responded just after 2 a.m.

The suspect is described as a thin white man with brown hair, police said.

Police have not publicly linked the crime to a series of 13 rape cases in Lawrence and Manhattan, dating back to 2004, that may be connected. In those cases, the suspect is described as a white man between 25 and 40 years old with a slim build.
