Board to drop charges against Tiller

? The Kansas Board of Healing Arts will be dropping its case against Dr. George Tiller.

Board spokeswoman Kristi Pankratz said Thursday the case will be shelved because of the May 31 shooting death of the Wichita physician. He was among a few doctors who performed third-trimester abortions in the U.S.

The board announced its case after Tiller was acquitted in March of 19 misdemeanor charges that alleged he failed to get a required second opinion from an independent physician. The board’s complaint covered much of the same allegations as the criminal case.

Pankratz called dropping the case a formality. She said the board’s attorney will file a motion soon with regulators to end the case.
