ReStore needs help setting up new shop

Habitat ReStore has recently moved to 708 Conn. and needs help getting the new location set up. Tasks may include heavy lifting. If you can help out, contact KH at 865-6920.

Immediate needs

• Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care is looking for eight to 10 volunteers interested in helping with some landscaping needs at its new Care Cottage residential and hospice care facility. Volunteers must enjoy working outdoors and be able to do light digging, mulching and planting. Activities will be scheduled for one Saturday morning, with a date to be announced soon. Volunteers who can make a four-hour commitment are preferred. For more information or to volunteer, contact Sarah Rooney at 331-4812.

• The Youth Volunteer Corps is seeking kids ages 11 to 18 to help out with fun service projects during the summer. Participants will volunteer weekly at a community garden and at the Social Service League. During the week of June 15-19 there will be daily volunteer activities, including playing with kids, helping out with a special event, and socializing and giving manicures to seniors at Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community. • Want to spend a year making an impact in your community? Apply to be an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer right here in Lawrence! Through Volunteers in Service to America you can help develop programs on disaster preparedness at the health department or Roger Hill Volunteer Center. Train to be on the Community Emergency Response Team and work with community-based organizations to lead Kansas in preparing vulnerable populations for disasters. • The Lawrence Community Theatre needs volunteers to help with its show “Crazy For You,” which runs through June 21. Ushers, bartenders, bakers and box office volunteers are needed. Bartenders and box office volunteers should plan to be at the theater one hour before showtime, and ushers should arrive a half-hour before showtime. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. on Thursdays, 8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and 2:30 p.m. on Sundays. Call 843-7469 or e-mail lctks@sbcglobal.net.
