LCT tackles Gershwin music

Joshua Cuffe and Kendra Verhage work through lines for “Crazy for You” at the Lawrence Community Theatre, 1501 N.H.

The songs of George and Ira Gershwin are the centerpiece of a musical opening tonight at the Lawrence Community Theatre. “Crazy for You” features more than 20 Gershwin tunes, including “Embraceable You,” “Someone to Watch Over Me” and “Nice Work if You Can Get It.”

The show is about Bobby Child, a New York banker in training who would rather sing and dance — despite the efforts of his overbearing mother and fiancee.

The show, under the direction of Charles Goolsby, features a cast of more than 20.

Shows are scheduled for tonight, Saturday, Sunday, Thursday and June 12, 13, 14, 18, 19, 20 and 21. Thursday performances are at 7:30 p.m., Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m., and Sunday matinees are at 2:30 p.m.
