Volunteer at the animal shelter

To the editor:

I think that Lawrence needs a bigger Humane Society. The puppies have no room to play in the little cages. The kittens only have one to two rooms to play in depending on how many kittens they have. The rodents have a very small cage to be in and not enough room to be played with.

The dogs and cats are sometimes sick and get their roommates sick as well. When this happens it blocks off that whole cage and they cannot be played with. It may take a long time for them to recover and if they are played with, more animals get sick and there will be no room for the animals in the recovery room. The expansion will help the animals have more room to play and each animal will have their own cage to play in.

There has been thought about expanding the Humane Society but no action has happened. If we could get more cages and add onto the building it would be a very good place for the animals to stay until they get adopted. The Humane Society should have more fundraisers to get more money for this expansion. They could also use more volunteers to help out with playing with the animals.

The expansion would really help out the Humane Society and the animals that are there.
