Recycle, or else

Editor’s note: Today’s letters to the editor are from Southwest Junior High students learning about persuasive writing.

To the editor:

Few people are aware of what happens when they thoughtlessly throw away what could be recycled. All of that recyclable trash you toss is just carelessly thrown into a big hole full of garbage. Think about what this does to the environment. Most of the trash in that landfill could’ve been recycled; so why isn’t it recycled?

Recycling is easy to do and it helps the environment. There are probably quite a few things that could just be lying around the household that can be recycled or reused. According to the City of Lawrence website, www.lawrencerecycles.org, people will take things like bicycles, bubble wrap, polystyrene peanuts, clothing, furniture, and broken cell phones to be recycled or reused. So why throw it all away?

There’re many places all around town where you can recycle. So really, does it take that long to take a trip to your local recycling center and drop off some recyclables? Get off that couch and do so; you will be doing something good for our environment and you will feel warm and fuzzy inside as well.
