Let’s expand Memorial Stadium

To the editor:

KU sports in Lawrence are a big deal. KU’s men’s basketball team just won the national championship, and the football team is good, too. I’m writing this letter to convince people to support expanding Memorial Stadium, where the Jayhawks play football.

If you look at the average size of a college football stadium, Memorial Stadium seats less people than average. The average size of an NFL football stadium is about 70,000 people, and lots of college stadiums are bigger than NFL stadiums. Memorial Stadium holds a little more than 50,000 people. We should dig out the track next to the field and add a few extra rows of seats. KU would also make more money by selling more tickets.

Another option would be to raise the big TV and build the stands all the way around the field. This would make our stadium look better.

This will all affect KU’s performance on the field. It is hard for another team to come to a stadium and win with lots of fans cheering against you. The fans will also pump up the Jayhawks, so they will play better. Overall, this expansion would benefit the town and the team.
