Help the humane society

Editor’s note: Today’s letters to the editor are from Southwest Junior High students learning about persuasive writing.

To the editor:

The Lawrence Humane Society needs community help to stay open. If they don’t receive donations, thousands of helpless animals could be turned away.

Animals have to share cages because there is not enough room. Everyone can help with this problem by getting their pets spayed or neutered. This will keep the birth rate down. The shelter also needs a new building where the animals can run around when it’s to cold or when the workers can’t take them out.

They need the donations and they put out wish lists all the time. This Christmas when you have someone who is hard to shop for, make a donation to the humane society in their name. You can also donate instead of getting birthday presents; you could tell your friends to bring a donation to the Lawrence Humane Society. Please visit 1805 E. 19th St. Lawrence, KS 66044, www.lawrencehumane.org or call (785) 843-6835 to see what you can do to help. They need your donations especially coming into winter. The Humane Society’s having Santa Paws, where you can get your picture taken with your pet for a $10 donation.
