Editor's note: Today's letters to the editor are from Southwest Junior High students learning about persuasive writing.
To the editor:
I am writing this letter to ask Lawrence citizens to donate money or supplies to the Humane Society of Lawrence. Living conditions for the animals at the Humane Society are not the greatest. With your help and support, we might be able to improve the lives of animals at the Humane Society.
Though the Humane Society never turns an animal away, the dogs aren’t housed in the best of environments. Many animals are required to share cages. Some cages for smaller animals are too small and are stacked on top of one another. The more cages, the healthier the animals stay.
The cages the animals live in are not the best. Inside the cages the animals are given one blanket and a water bowl. The cages are not very large either.
I feel volunteering is also needed at the Humane Society. The more volunteers, the more cleaning and attention can be given to the animals and their living spaces.
The Humane Society is a wonderful organization that gives hope to many animals in need. With your help we can make the Humane Society a better, healthier place.
Please help make the lives of many animals better.
