Children are homeless

Editor’s note: Today’s letters to the editor are from Southwest Junior High students learning about persuasive writing.

To the editor:

The homeless population of Lawrence is 373. Because there is room for only 100 people in the community shelter the rest are left on the streets. Many people fight for space around the Lawrence area. Those left on the streets need to be put in a nice facility.

Many of the homeless children are either put in foster care or left with their families out on the streets. I think that Lawrence should have a much bigger homeless facility to provide every homeless person with shelter until they are able to get jobs.

Many homeless people have kids and need to feed and send them to school, but unfortunately most homeless people can’t because of costs. I think schools should allow homeless families to send their son or daughter to school. Also many people do not have the proper clothing to go outside in the winter, like hats, gloves, coats and shoes or boots. Many people also can not get jobs to support their families I think many homeless men and women should be able to work either at a fast food restaurant or a super store. I think we should give more respect to the homeless.
