Cell phones in school

Editor’s note: Today’s letters to the editor are from Southwest Junior High students learning about persuasive writing.

To the editor:

Should kids be allowed to use cell phones in school? This is a hot topic for many young cell phone users in school. But many people think it is bad for young people to have cell phones in school, I’ll tell you how they’re wrong.

Cell phones should be used in case of emergency, or to get a hold of parents to tell them something. That is only one reason kids should be able to use cell phones in school, according to Randi Weingarten from Opposing Viewpoints.

Another reason an out right ban from cell phones in school is bad, it would make students use their cell phones even more. Students could use cell phones to communicate between each other in the classroom by text so they wouldn’t have to yell across the room. But if your afraid they will cheat on a test while they are texting each other, then take their phones away during a major test so that they can’t cheat.

I ‘m hoping that this letter has changed your mind about letting kids use their cell phones in school classrooms.
