Letter to the editor: An outrageous slush fund

To the editor:

Just when you think the Current Occupant has reached rock bottom, he does something to prove you wrong. The most recent occurrence is the creation, with the assistance of the acting attorney general, of a $1.776 billion slush fund to pay individuals who were charged with federal crimes related to the January 6 insurrection. Many of these people – over 1,200 individuals – either pleaded guilty or were convicted by a federal judge or a jury of their peers under federal law. The creation of this fund is just one more example of the graft, greed and outright corruption of the current administration.

The creation of this slush fund is particularly galling given the impact of the administration’s policies that have increased costs and reduced federal benefits for American citizens.

Tariffs and a war of choice in Iran have directly increased the cost of energy and all manner of goods. Immigration dragnets have removed productive workers from many businesses leading to shortages of workers, disrupting food supply chains and further increasing costs.

At the same time, the administration has cut benefits to needy individuals while reducing taxes on the richest Americans.

Through all of the outrageous actions of the administration our Republican Senators and Representatives have failed to utter even a peep in opposition. It is time to end their terms in Congress. They must be replaced in upcoming elections by individuals who will support the rule of law and the needs of their constituents.

Marty Bregman,
