Adopt a pet

Editor’s note: Today’s letters to the editor are from Southwest Junior High students learning about persuasive writing.

To the editor:

I am a dear pet lover and have adopted a pet from the Lawrence Humane Society. I’m worried that the building isn’t big enough for all those animals that call that place their home.

For all the people who volunteer and work really hard to remove animal cruelty, I worry about the shelter becoming too overwhelmed with all the animals coming in. I know the humane society is a no-kill shelter so they send them to Topeka with all those new animals coming into the shelter they have to make room for the new arrivals. The kennels are only meant to hold one or two animals, but they are currently holding three or more animals.

To help the shelter I suggest instead of buying pets from a pure blood breeder across the country, adopt from the Lawrence Humane Society. If you would like to adopt a pet, then look on their Web site. Their website is lawrencehumane.org. You can also call them at (785) 843-6835. Their address is 1805 East 19th St.
