No candidates have filed to run for Lawrence school board — yet

No candidates have filed yet to seek one of the three seats on the Lawrence school board, but at least one incumbent said he would likely seek re-election.

John Mitchell, who was first elected in 2005, said Thursday night he was leaning toward running. Meanwhile, Linda Robinson said she was not planning to seek a third board term.

Board President Craig Grant said on Thursday that he planned to make a statement later this month. Grant, who is the new chief of staff for Kansas House Minority Leader Paul Davis, is nearing the end of his first term.

Mitchell said he would take the appropriate steps to file before the Jan. 27 deadline. He is a longtime Kansas Department of Health and Environment staffer who was promoted in 2008 to be the director of the agency’s division of environment.

Douglas County Clerk Jamie Shew said no candidates had filed as of 1 p.m. Friday.
