No candidates have filed yet to seek one of the three seats on the Lawrence school board, but at least one incumbent said he would likely seek re-election.

John Mitchell, who was first elected in 2005, said Thursday night he was leaning toward running. Meanwhile, Linda Robinson said she was not planning to seek a third board term.

Board President Craig Grant said on Thursday that he planned to make a statement later this month. Grant, who is the new chief of staff for Kansas House Minority Leader Paul Davis, is nearing the end of his first term.

Mitchell said he would take the appropriate steps to file before the Jan. 27 deadline. He is a longtime Kansas Department of Health and Environment staffer who was promoted in 2008 to be the director of the agency’s division of environment.

Douglas County Clerk Jamie Shew said no candidates had filed as of 1 p.m. Friday.

Well mr hawk I will be putting things together to run and I WILL meet the deadline. Now the next thing, all you people out there that complain about all the school problems make sure you tune in and help me turn things around. Thru all the meetings I have attended, it seems to me that many more people come out after there is something to complain about than people that try to support the decision making process.I will take care of these budget problems as well as the bus problem we all have been arguing about

Mr. Hawk, I see no problem in fixing the problems you speak of. I understand the proper structure of education and look forward to election. Many of the items you point out have seen the spotlight of attention and are fresh in my mind.
