Lawrence police were investigating an armed robbery Wednesday night at a gas station in southern Lawrence.

Sgt. Mark Warren, a police spokesman, said that around 9 p.m. a man displayed a handgun and demanded money from a clerk at the BP station, 3020 Iowa. He took an undetermined amount of money and left the store to the west.

No one was injured, Warren said. Police did not identify a vehicle.

Witnesses described the suspect as 6 feet to 6 feet 2 inches tall with an athletic build. The man wore a blue hooded sweatshirt under a red jacket with black stripes on the sleeves.

The man also wore blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a black stocking cap.
