LCO readies for Baroque by Candlelight

Members of the Lawrence Chamber Orchestra rehearse Tuesday for their annual Baroque by Candlelight concert at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1245 N.H.

The sounds of the Baroque era will fill Trinity Lutheran Church Saturday as the Lawrence Chamber Orchestra performs its 11th annual Baroque by Candlelight concert.

The concert, at 7 p.m., will feature soprano Jodi Frisbie, a voice professor at Bethany College; trumpeter Keith Benjamin, professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City; and harpist Tabitha Reist Steiner, who will perform Handel’s Harp Concerto.

Other works on the program include pieces by C.P.E. Bach and the cantata “Su le sponde del Tebro” by Scarlatti. Steven McDonald, the LCO’s music director, will play and conduct from the harpsichord.

Tickets are $30 for one or $50 for two. They are available at Hume Music, 1410 Kasold Drive, from any LCO board member or at the door. Admission includes a wine and dessert reception following the concert at the church, 1245 N.H.

A preview of Saturday’s concert can be heard on Kansas Public Radio at 11:15 a.m. Friday, when McDonald and Frisbie play selections from the program. That can be heard at 91.5 FM.
