Immediate needs

• Habitat for Humanity is looking for Family Support Committee members. The committee assigns an individual or couple to help a partner family through the process of preparing for and building their own home. Before the partnership begins, the committee provides thorough training in Habitat policies and procedures. During the process, the family partners stay in close contact as friends and advisers, and also as a link between the organization and the family. The committee also plays an important role in interpreting policies to the board from a homeowner’s point of view.

This committee meets once a month but communication with partner families continues throughout the entire process of when a family is selected through them moving into their homes. If you are interested in serving contact Lori at 832-0777 or lori@lawrencehabitat.org.

• The Girl Scouts need your help! On Jan. 8, a semitrailer truck will be bringing cookies to the arena at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Lots of helpers will be needed to sort and count the boxes to get them ready for the leaders of more than 80 troops. There are many shifts available. Contact Lisa Vanderbilt at dccookies@sbcglobal.net if you are interested in helping.

• The Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is Monday, Jan. 18. The Roger Hill Volunteer Center will have volunteer projects and a Speak Out planned. More information will be coming soon. Contact Emily at programs@rhvc.org or call 865-5030 if you are interested in volunteering.
