It’s official: Turner Gill announced as KU’s next football coach

Turner Gill, in this undated photo, started his coaching career as an understudy to Nebraska football coach Tom Osborne and ascended to assistant head coach under Frank Solich.

Kansas athletic director Lew Perkins announced in a statement Sunday that former University of Buffalo coach Turner Gill will be the next head football coach at Kansas University.

A formal press conference will take place at 11 a.m. Monday.

“Turner Gill is a winner,” Perkins said in the release. “His accomplishments at Buffalo speak for themselves. But more than that, everyone I talked to about him, starting with (former Nebraska coach) Tom Osborne, had the highest praise for Turner as a coach and as a person.”

Gill has been coach at Buffalo the last four seasons, earning MAC coach of the year honors in 2007 and 2008.
