Aggravated assault, kidnapping charges against 20-year-old in connection with October incident

Prosecutors on Thursday charged a second man in connection with an alleged October kidnapping incident at a Kentucky Street apartment.

Douglas County prosecutors filed kidnapping and aggravated assault charges against Eric J. Ashton, 20, after he was arrested on a warrant Wednesday in Sedgwick County.

According to court records, prosecutors accuse him of confining a 21-year-old Lawrence man against his will and using a handgun during the alleged ordeal.

Prosecutors on Tuesday had also charged Logan T. Wright, 22, of Lawrence, with one count of kidnapping in relation to the Oct. 15 incident. Wright was arrested in November and had already posted $15,000 bond. He is scheduled to have his first appearance in court at 3 p.m. today (Friday).

According to Lawrence police, the victim told officers that at least two men prevented him from leaving the apartment during an argument the afternoon of Oct. 15. The victim said one man pointed a gun at him.

A judge on Thursday set Ashton’s bond at $50,000, and he was no longer listed in custody at the Douglas County Jail on Thursday evening. His next court appearance is scheduled for 2 p.m. Dec. 10. He was listed Thursday as a student in Kansas University’s online directory.
