Exercise program offered to seniors

Lawrence Senior Center is offering a class designed to get seniors moving.

The class, “Motivating Moves For Healthy Living,” will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Sept. 14 at the center, 745 Vt. The cost is $15.

The instructor, Janet Hamburg, is a registered somatic movement therapist, a dance professor and an associate of Kansas University’s Gerontology Center. She will teach exercises and share practical tips to make sitting, standing, walking, reaching and other everyday tasks feel easier to do.

The class emphasizes coordination, balance, flexibility, postural alignment, spatial awareness and dynamic movement range. It’s designed to teach participants how to become stronger and reduce their risk of injury.

To register by the Sept. 11 deadline, stop by the center or call Jessie Kwatamdia, 842-0543. The class is open to people who are 50 and older.
