Exposure case near school reported
Lawrence police are looking for a man who reportedly exposed himself to a 12-year-old girl near the playground at Sunset Hill School, 901 Schwarz Road.
The incident happened just after 7 p.m. Thursday, as the child and a 10-year-old girl were playing near the school.
The 12-year-old told police a man in a white car opened the door and had his pants pulled down.
Both girls ran home and reported the incident to their parents, who called police.
Sunset Hill Principal Chris Bay used the School Messenger System to send out a recording, alerting parents of the incident. The school also sent home a letter with students Friday.
“This is a good reminder to talk to your kids about stranger danger and the buddy system,” Bay said. “The girls in this case did exactly what they were supposed to do.”
Police said the suspect is described as a white male, about 20 years old with dark black hair and long sideburns. He was last seen driving a large white four-door car.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Stoppers hot line at 843-TIPS.
