Prosecutor: No charges in wrong-way crash

? The criminal investigation into the Taconic State Parkway crash is over, Westchester County District Attorney Janet DiFiore said Tuesday.

“Diane Schuler died … and the charges died with her,” DiFiore said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.

Prosecutors found that Schuler was the only one criminally culpable in the crash that claimed eight lives.

Westchester prosecutors and New York State Police had said criminal charges in the July 26 wrong-way collision were unlikely because the main suspect, Diane Schuler, 36, of West Babylon, N.Y., died in the accident.

Authorities say Schuler was drunk and high on marijuana as she drove her two children and three nieces home to Long Island from an upstate camping trip. She drove the minivan south into the northbound lanes of the Taconic for nearly two miles before smashing into an oncoming sport utility vehicle.
