Michael Jackson to be buried on his birthday

Los Angeles — The King of Pop will be buried on what would have been his 51st birthday, a spokesman for Michael Jackson’s family said Tuesday.

Jackson will be buried at a private ceremony at Forest Lawn-Glendale on Aug. 29, spokesman Ken Sunshine said in a statement. Guests will be limited to family and close friends, Sunshine said.

“The Jackson family once again wishes to express its gratitude to Michael’s fans around the world for their support during these difficult times,” the statement said.

Details about the ceremony and the whereabouts of Jackson’s body have been tightly guarded. The announcement came a day after the New York Daily News reported comments by Jackson’s father, Joe Jackson, that his son would be buried on what would have been his birthday.

Sunshine said Jackson will be buried on the Holly Terrace at the cemetery’s Great Mausoleum. The cemetery’s Web site describes the mausoleum as featuring replicas of works by Michelangelo. It also features a stained glass recreation of Leonardo da Vinci’s “The Last Supper.”

Celine Dion pregnant with second child

Montreal — A spokeswoman for Celine Dion says the pop star is pregnant with her second child.

Murielle Blondeau, a spokeswoman with the Bureau de Francine Chaloult, said Tuesday that Dion, 41, and husband, Rene Angelil, found out about the pregnancy Monday after she underwent fertility treatments in New York. Blondeau says the baby is due next May.

She says Dion and Angelil are full of joy and that it’s been a dream for Celine to have a second child. Dion’s first child, Rene-Charles, started private school this week in Florida.

Rene-Charles was also conceived by in vitro fertilization at the same New York clinic eight years ago.

‘Survivor’ winner Hatch in jail again

Boston — “Survivor” winner Richard Hatch is once again behind bars.

Hatch, who was convicted in 2006 for not paying taxes on the $1 million prize he won on the CBS reality show’s first season, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and taken to a Massachusetts county jail that’s used to hold federal detainees.

The Barnstable County Sheriff’s Office didn’t know why Hatch was there, and the federal Bureau of Prisons couldn’t immediately reached early today.

Hatch, who’s 48, was arrested three months after being released into home confinement in Rhode Island and hours after speaking publicly for the first time since he got out of federal prison.

In an interview aired on NBC’s “Today” show Tuesday, Hatch said he believes the judge in his tax evasion case discriminated against him because he’s gay.

A U.S. Attorney’s spokesman called Hatch’s claims baseless.

Attorney: Miley stalking suspect ‘a human being’

Tybee Island, Ga. — A 53-year-old man charged with attempting to stalk “Hannah Montana” star Miley Cyrus is “a human being” struggling with grief who might need help, his defense attorney said Tuesday.

Mark McLeod of Appling appeared briefly Tuesday before a Tybee Island Municipal Court judge, who postponed a scheduled hearing in the case until next Tuesday. Outside the courtroom, his court-appointed lawyer said people shouldn’t jump to conclusions that McLeod is dangerous.

“People need to understand that, really, he’s a human being,” attorney James Byrne said. “If there’s something wrong, we need to address it. He’s one of our fellow citizens who might need some help.”

Police on Tybee Island, 12 miles east of Savannah, arrested McLeod twice on misdemeanor charges June 22 and Aug. 4. Both times, police say, McLeod came to the island looking for 16-year-old Cyrus as she filmed a movie on the Georgia coast. Police said he told officers he was secretly engaged to the teen pop star.
