A 47-year-old Lawrence man was taken to the hospital after a motorcycle accident on U.S. Highway 40.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, the 23-year-old driver of a 2005 Nissan swerved to avoid chickens in the roadway when he hit Kevin Richcreek’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Richcreek was wearing a helmet and eye protection. He was treated and released from Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Wednesday.
