Actress knows whodunit to Edie on ‘Housewives’

Los Angeles — Nicollette Sheridan says her “Desperate Housewives” character faced something more dangerous than a deranged husband: The actress claims the show’s creator had it in for Edie Britt.

Sheridan told TV Guide magazine that Edie must represent somebody that “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry didn’t like and that he had trouble “distinguishing between fact and fiction.”

When last seen, Edie had crashed her car while trying to flee her husband. The ABC drama picks up the story in Sunday’s episode, with Edie mourned by her Wisteria Lane neighbors.

Cherry told TV Guide that the show has been under pressure to cut costs, with the magazine estimating that Sheridan’s departure will save up to $200,000 per episode. Cherry also says in TV Guide’s April 20 issue that Edie’s story and sexual escapades had run their course.

George Harrison gets Walk of Fame star

Los Angeles — Hundreds of George Harrison’s biggest fans and best friends, including Paul McCartney and Tom Petty, turned out Tuesday to see a posthumous star for the quiet Beatle unveiled during a raucous celebration on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Fellow former Beatle McCartney stood next to Harrison’s widow, Olivia, and son, Dhani, as the star was unveiled in front of the landmark Capitol Records building.

The only other surviving member of the band, Ringo Starr, did not attend. But one of Harrison’s friends, Monty Python’s Eric Idle, said he had recently spoken to Starr.

“He said, ‘What about mine?'” Idle said. “I said, ‘They don’t give drummers stars.'”

Harrison already shared a Walk of Fame star with all of the Beatles, but only he and John Lennon, who was shot to death by a deranged fan in 1980, have their own stars. Harrison, the youngest of the Beatles, died of lung cancer in 2001 at age 58.

Lindsay Lohan makes mock dating service ad

New York — Lindsay Lohan is on the prowl again.

The much-gossiped-about starlet has made a mock dating service video posted on comedy Web site FunnyOrDie.com. Lohan, 22, recently said that she and DJ Samantha Ronson are taking a “brief break.”

The video, posted Tuesday, is in the guise of an eHarmony ad. Lohan says she’s “recently single … I think.” She says she’s looking for someone to spend the rest of her life with, “or at least the rest of my probation with.”

Lohan pokes fun at herself, saying she’s looking for the perfect mate who likes long walks on the beach, car chases on the Pacific Coast Highway, “antiquing and passing out in Cadillac Escalades.”

A spokeswoman for FunnyOrDie, co-founded by Will Ferrell, says the video was shot last weekend.

Michael Jackson’s

stuff not for sale

Los Angeles — A collection of Michael Jackson’s possessions from Neverland Ranch is safe from the auctioneer’s gavel now that the pop singer and Julien’s Auction House have reached a settlement to their dispute over whether 2,000 items were ever intended for sale.

Specific terms were not disclosed Tuesday. But, in short, Jackson keeps his things, while Julien’s keeps its exhibition, which was open to the public and originally meant to promote next week’s sale.
