Law enforcement report
Four people were injured Saturday at a Mud-A-Thon in McLouth when a speeding truck lost control, went airborne and entered the spectator area, said Carl Chalfant of the McLouth Fire Department.
Chalfant said two people were taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries and two people declined transfer.
“They ended up being fairly minor (injuries) compared to the situation we could have had,” Chalfant said. “It’s your worst nightmare on an activity like that.”
The incident occurred about 7:45 p.m. at the Threshing Bee grounds, according to Jefferson County dispatchers and EMS.
Vinnie Southiere of Jefferson County EMS said a middle-school-aged child from McLouth was struck by a part of fence and was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for neck pain.
Southiere said an adult female also was transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for multiple contusions and a possible broken arm.
Chalfant said one victim was released from the hospital and the second was expected to be released Sunday, but he could not confirm whether that occurred.
Emergency calls
Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical reported no fire calls Sunday.
