Police arrest four suspects in overnight attack
Two men sustained non-life-threatening injuries from a baseball bat and drove themselves to the hospital early this morning, Lawrence Police Capt. Tarik Khatib said.
Dispatchers sent police to a disturbance call at 2:48 a.m. in the 1800 block of Louisiana Street. The caller, a resident of the area, had reported people walking down the street with baseball bats.
When officers arrived at the scene, they were approached by two men who said that there was a large fight and that they had been beaten with a bat.
Officers found four suspects and arrested them around 5:00 a.m., Khatib said. Two of the suspects were juveniles.
“After talking with victims, talking with suspects, we determined there was probable cause to arrest the four people we had,” Khatib said. The suspects have not yet been charged.
The victims, who declined treatment at the scene, suffered blunt trauma to the head and body. Khatib said that they drove themselves to the hospital as a precaution.
