The city of Lawrence will host a special event next week to recycle unwanted electronic equipment that could be dangerous to throw away in landfills.
City crews will be on hand from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 13 at the Free State High School parking lot, 4700 Overland Drive, to collect unwanted electronic items.
Electronic items such as computer monitors, keyboards, televisions, cell phones and fax machines may contain hazardous components such as lead and mercury that should not be disposed of in landfills.
The city will collect the materials and turn them over to a federally approved electronics recycling company.
