Lawrence police investigating four sex crimes

The Lawrence Police Department is investigating four sex crimes in different areas of the city involving women who report they were illegally touched, the agency announced Tuesday.

A 19-year-old Lawrence woman said she was touched by a man Oct. 1 while trying on clothing at a downtown Lawrence clothing store. The victim said the man illegally touched her when she came out of a dressing room to look at clothes in a mirror, a police report said.

A 24-year-old Lawrence woman told police that a 21-year-old male acquaintance touched her sometime before 5 a.m. on Oct. 4 at a friend’s apartment north of Sixth Street, the police report said. Police said they forwarded this sexual battery case to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review.

A 22-year-old Lawrence woman reported she was illegally touched by a 28-year-old male acquaintance about 10:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at a west Lawrence home. This case was also forwarded to the district attorney’s office for review.

Investigators said they’re also looking into a report that a 19-year-old Manhattan woman was illegally touched by a 21-year-old male acquaintance between Nov. 30, 2007, and March 1, 2008, after a party in south central Lawrence. The woman reported the incident to Lawrence police Oct. 5.
