A Sunday night car fire at Second and Elm streets was accidental, Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical Chief Mark Bradford said.
The car, which was ablaze just north of the Kansas River, was fully engulfed with 10-foot flames when firefighters were dispatched at 11:10 p.m., Capt. Jim Sloan said. The fire was under control at 11:22 p.m.
Four firefighters extinguished the flames, revealing a charred Honda Accord.
Bradford said the cause of the fire was determined to be from mechanical failure. Nobody was injured in the fire.
