KU officials urged students to refrain from using a long-time student chant during football games because of its obscenity. Enlarge video

Kansas University football coach Mark Mangino asked students to stop an obscene football chant today.

The video was distributed to university students by e-mail this afternoon, asking them to stop yelling "rip his (expletive) head off" after Kansas kickoffs.

Mangino thanked the students for their support and praised the university's many traditions.

"But do us a favor," Mangino said in the video. "Let's cut out that kickoff chant."

    Thanks coach!!

FYI - The video is also available on KU's YouTube channel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGuMUX...

That is not how my coach talked to me when I was doing something he didn't approve of. I have seen more realistic personality while using a script in a chucky cheese automated performer. How much time and money was spent figuring out how to get the students from using the kick-off chant before coming up with that weak excuse of an attempt. You bet coach, your the greatest! Later can we get ice cream.

Whoops Jack, think you have the wrong link. Here it is:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmAYpAzNB34

Excellent video, Coach. Now all we need is us students to recongize all the awesome things Coach has done for our football program and follow his lead. We're classier than this chant!

  7. JackRipper (anonymous) says…

You mean this link where he demonstrates how not to talk is wrong?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmAYpAzNB34

  8. JackRipper (anonymous) says…

And jhawks360 have you ever pondered, what exactly is it that the program does for you or anyone else not on the payroll? Does your life really revolve around whether a football team that is associated with a institute of higher learning really do anything for you? Follow his lead? I think the link shows you what his lead is!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmAYpAzNB34

Mangino clearly believed every word he read from that script. HA Maybe he isnt the man to request less profanities.

"what exactly is it that the program does for you or anyone else not on the payroll." -JackRipper (KU hater)The success of the program has added immeasurable community at KU in Lawrence. The only time I've seen my school rally together as closely as when we won the Orange Bowl was a few months later when we won the National Championsip.Athletics make a school recognizable to the larger population. And a succesful athletics program brings pride and community to a school.Mark Mangino has been a part of that success and I respect him. If he asks for the chant to stop, students who also respect him should listen.

"The success of the program has added immeasurable community at KU in Lawrence."It has? Can you imagine many of us who could care less because we grew up and see the adult problems like the tanking economy? And again, is that really a benefit that you feel makes a real difference? Is it that important that people can say something about KU winning a game? Really?JackRipper(who sees sports being way out of control including starting kids before they are old enough to even understand the game playing it for their boomer parents who are always looking for a way to make an easy buck. It isn't just KU sports, it is the entire corrupt system.)

My god you are a sour puss JackRipper. Two kinds of people in this world, Tiggers and Eyors. Here is your pin on tail, JackAssRipper.Do you realize how many athletes there are that are not playing football and basketball that may not have gone to college if it wasn't from some sort of scholarship generated by their athletic ability? Sports where the highest level is the remote possibility of winning a gold medal for their country. How many foreign athletes are able to get out of their respective hell hole's of native countries by coming to the US to play a sport? If the system is corrupt, who are the victims of the corruption? Is it the student athletes? I doubt many of them would agree, they are living their dream for the most part. Is it the students at the schools? Hardly, most are raucous and rabid fans of their respective schools or they don't care. Is it the communities? Nope, the benefit from increased revenues generated by athletic events. How about the fans? Well, I don't see anyone being forced into stadiums, or forced to buy merch. You would be hard pressed to find a victim of your so-called corruption.Jack, just because you get winded when you walk from your computer chair to the water cooler, or get angry because your personal printer is out of ink and the office one is a whole 15 YARDS away, don't hate on kids who are doing what they love. Because at this level, with the amount of dedication it takes, these guys enjoy what they are doing.I get it Jack, YOU are the victim...well, it's time to get over being picked last for dodge ball.

Ripper, with the tanking economy and the many problems we face in our country today one of the few things to bring us together is football. Where democrats and republicans can finally agree on their Jayhawks!!! Rock Chalk

  14. JackRipper (anonymous) says…

monkeyspunk is a college degree suppose to be just a cheap commodity? Shouldn't college be the place for real academics and people can get in based on academic skills? How many kids are smart enough but have to go into debt or work jobs while taking classes? Why do sports skills have anything to do with getting into college?! It is just more of the dumbing down that some how we work to get more people with college degrees since high school degrees are so worthless now and just dumb down the whole system. That is nothing against athletes who should be able to pursue their dreams of making it but let's do it where it makes more sense like a farm team. The billionaire pro sports owners have been getting to many free rides like colleges developing their talent and cities building their stadiums. Wake up people!

Many bring up Coach Mangino's rant from last year. You know, guys, get a grip. Bitching out one (or several) players on the bench is a whole different deal then 15,000 screaming students yelling at the top of their lungs in the stadium, to the point that ESPN catches every syllable! Maybe Mangino isn't a saint, but anything he says on the bench is not for public consumption, but the public DOES hear what the students shout. I am 100% behind Mangino on this one, and I hope it does some good! Rock Chalk!

  16. Fatty_McButterpants (anonymous) says…

I wonder if Mangino has ever had a visible neck?

  17. jhawks360 (anonymous) says…

Basically what we're seeing here is people who love KU sports saying we need to end the chant and people who hate KU saying we need to keep it....

  19. applebottom (anonymous) says…

That's awful. A bunch of students chanting violently during a game. What has football become? They should save their violent chants for the chess matches.

  20. 63BC (anonymous) says…

All he had to say,"This is something Mizzou fans would do."Bang. Done. You'd never hear it again.

  21. jhawks360 (anonymous) says…

This is exactly the type of thing a jean short wearing trash Mizzou fan would chant.

  22. applebottom (anonymous) says…

This is exactly the type of thing terrorists want us talking about.
