‘Slow Food’ advocate to sign books at KU

Chef Kurt Michael Friese is making a quick trip to Lawrence about slow food.

Friese, who sits on the Slow Food USA national board of directors, will be at the KU Bookstore in the Kansas Union to read and discuss his new book, “A Cook’s Journey: Slow Food in the Heartland.”

The book explores Friese’s travels throughout 13 Midwest states, including Kansas, where he looks for healthy, local, sustainable food. Among his discoveries are family recipes from Italy in Kansas City and goes to the farm of the publisher of the “Mother Earth News” near Lawrence.

The event is free and open to the public and includes information about the Slow Food movement from representatives of KU Dining Services, the Community Mercantile, the Lawrence Farmers’ Market, Local Burger and Wheatfields Bakery Cafe.
