Exhibit to raise abuse awareness

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Clothesline Project is giving abused women the opportunity to share their experiences.

For the entire month, more than 500 T-shirts designed by victims or their significant others to represent their experiences will be on display at two locations. From today to Oct. 15, they will be at Body Boutique Fitness Center, 2330 Yale Road. The exhibit will be displayed at the Lawrence Public Library from Oct. 15 to Oct. 30.

Events recognizing domestic violence victims span the entire month. Lawrence Mayor Mike Dever will deliver a proclamation at Tuesday’s City Commission meeting. A run/walk to benefit the Clothesline Project is scheduled for Oct. 11; Raven Bookstore, 6 E. Seventh St., will display books on domestic violence, and proceeds from sales at Bed Mart, 2329 Iowa, and Beauty Brands Salon, Spa & Superstore, 3514 Clinton Parkway, will benefit the Women’s Transitional Care Services, which organizes the Clothesline Project.
