Madonna, Ritchie given preliminary divorce

London — After the wedding in a Scottish castle, the mansion on a green English estate and the drinks in their own pub, Madonna and Guy Ritchie’s eight-year marriage ended Friday in a dreary London courtroom.

There was no legal obligation for 50-year-old Madonna or Guy Ritchie, 40, to attend the hearing at which they were granted a decree nisi, the first of two stages of divorce. There was no sign of the couple and the room was filled instead with journalists tracking the dying days of an A-list celebrity romance. The divorce can become final after six weeks and a day with the granting of a decree absolute.

Court papers signed by Madonna in Los Angeles confirmed that the queen of pop petitioned for divorce on the basis of Ritchie’s “unreasonable behavior,” and that there is no need to apply family law in the case — meaning that the couple have reached their own agreements over their assets and children.

Madonna and Ritchie have two children, Rocco, 8, and David Banda, 3, who was adopted from Malawi in 2006. The singer has a 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes, from a previous relationship with personal trainer Carlos Leon.

Miller wins damages from photo agency

London — British actress Sienna Miller has won 53,000 pounds ($79,000) from a photo agency she was suing on grounds of harassment.

Miller’s lawyer David Sherborne says the out-of-court settlement covers her two complaints against Big Pictures U.K. Ltd.

The agency also has agreed not to follow her or photograph her at home or in her garden.

The agency’s Allen Williams confirmed the settlement but had no further comment.

Miller and the agency informed a court of the settlement Friday.

The 26-year-old actress has appeared in the films “Casanova,” “Factory Girl” and “Layer Cake.”

New York — Spider-Man has another baby on the way.

Kelly Bush, publicist for “Spider-Man” star Tobey Maguire, says the 33-year-old actor and his wife, Jennifer Meyer, are expecting their second child in the spring.

Maguire and Meyer were married last year. They have a 2-year-old daughter, Ruby.

Ashlee Simpson-Wentz gives birth to baby boy

New York — Ashlee Simpson-Wentz and Pete Wentz are the proud parents of a baby boy, and they’re celebrating with some Bronx cheer — this one is a good one.

Their representative says the pop and rock star couple have named their son Bronx Mowgli. The baby, born Thursday night, weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces.

Bronx is the first child for Simpson-Wentz, best known for the hit “Pieces of Me,” and Wentz, bassist for the platinum rock band Fall Out Boy. They were married earlier this year.

Their representative said in a statement: “Ashlee, Pete and baby Bronx are all healthy and happy, and thank everyone for their well wishes!”

Newman’s will includes wife, foundation

Westport, Conn. — Paul Newman has left the assets to his wife, the Oscars to his foundation and the race cars to the highest bidder.

A will made public this week shows that Newman, who died in September, left his personal property, including real estate, to Joanne Woodward.

The 10-time Academy Award nominee, who won one Oscar and took home two honorary ones, left those statues and other awards to the Newman’s Own Foundation. Interest in Newman’s Own and Salad King also went to the foundation, which will distribute all profits to charity.

The will also directed that his airplane and race cars be sold, with proceeds going to his estate.

Signed April 11, Newman’s will was filed in Connecticut and was first reported by radaronline.com.

Detour for Depp movie shoot costs county

Madison, Wis. — County officials in Wisconsin are holding the bag following a movie shoot involving Johnny Depp as famed bank robber John Dillinger.

During filming of “Public Enemies” — Wisconsin’s first film under the governor’s new movie incentives — state highway traffic was diverted away from the center of Columbus, 70 miles northwest of Milwaukee. The detour road couldn’t stand the load — and collapsed.

Dodge County was left with a $116,000 repair. It’s filed a claim against the city of Columbus that could lead to a lawsuit.

But Columbus Mayor Nancy Osterhaus says talks are ongoing between the city, county and film studio NBC Universal, with hopes that they might split the bill for the March mishap.
